What is the Best Material for your Rigid Box Packaging?
What is the Best Material for your Rigid Box Packaging?
For packaging, rigid boxes are a leading choice for many businesses out there. These boxes offer outstanding qualities as they are manufactured from strengthening materials.

Ever heard, "What looks good sells well!" This is one of the most commonly used phrases in the marketing world. But good looks never mean the item should give a refreshing feel, and that's it.

This is more than that. This refers to all the processes a product crosses, and at the day's end, a final and finished product is in front of everyone. Whether it's the product or the package in which the product is packed. Both should complement each other.

Suppose any one of these things is not up to the mark. In that case, it will leave a negative impression on the consumers leading to fewer sales and less brand recognition, which I personally don't think is a good gesture in the market we are interacting with.

For packaging, rigid boxes are a leading choice for many businesses out there. These boxes offer outstanding qualities as they are manufactured from strengthening materials. This is the main reason many brands use custom rigid boxes for packaging items.

What are Rigid Boxes?

There's a misconception that people are only concerned about the product. But this is not true; there are even consumers that willingly pay more to get personalised packaging. And packaging can either make or break a consumer's interest in the product.

Although some people prefer soft packaging for their products, most consumers prefer the reliable and strong packaging that rigid boxes offer. These are sometimes called set-up boxes in the market.

Custom Rigid Boxes are four times thicker than the regular boxes available for packaging. One thing that is completely different from the standard boxes is that rigid boxes have an exterior paper that brands and companies can use for printing designs.

These custom rigid boxes make the product exceptional while adding to the branding and marketing of the product. For example, you might have noticed expensive electronics, beauty products, and even sometimes jewelry arrives in rigid cases.

What Materials Are Usually Used in Rigid Box Manufacturing?

Brands know that packaging is all about serving your best to the consumers. If the packaging material is top quality, it's a clear message for the consumers. You are thinking, what kind of message does the packaging convey?

It gives the customers a loyalty check that if the brand is so concerned about the product packaging, they'll also be more conscious about the product. Custom rigid boxes are the top trend of today's market, and that's why companies prefer to deliver products in them to their clients.

Custom rigid boxes are manufactured with a variety of materials depending on what kind of product is going to be delivered in them. The most common packaging materials for rigid boxes include:

Paperboard

Duplex board

Chipboard

Corrugated board

Paperboard

Our first choice for rigid box manufacturing is paperboard. But this one is not commonly used in rigid boxes. The reason is this is not water-resistant, and once it comes in contact with water, it quickly becomes flimsy.

Use three coating layers if you want to use paperboard as rigid box material. This will increase the resistance protection, but you have to pay extra for having such protection material.

Duplex Board

Next comes the duplex board. It is grey on both sides. But there is a shade difference between the colors. The outside of the box is glossy, while the inside is tinted grey. Commonly, pharmaceutical companies and garment brands use such rigid boxes.

Those brands searching for high-quality printing on their packaging boxes prefer duplex boxes for packaging their products before they are delivered to the consumers' place.

Chipboard

One of the finest materials for rigid box manufacturing is chipboard. This is usually made from recycled corrugated cardboard or newspaper. As these packaging boxes are manufactured sturdy enough, rigid boxes are strong enough to hold heavy-weight products.

These boxes can easily bear any kind of wear and tear, making them the best-resistant boxes for shipping products. The process of chipboard making is long and contains various steps like printing paper wraps, foil stamping, and much more.

Once a chipboard is created, it is further cut into pieces and then assembled to form the packaging box. Many brands prefer it as it is less expensive and offer extra protection from any damage, whether mishandled or during transportation.

These materials are on the exterior of the rigid box. Apart from the outside, some other materials also contribute to the inside of the rigid box. These are:

Foam core

Polystyrene Foam

Plastic sheeting

Foam core

Foam core or foam sheets are the regular sleek and thin sheets that are usually used to wrap the products before placing them in rigid box packages. As these sheets are thin, they are for a little protection, and they also serve to portray the product with a fancy look.

Polystyrene Foam

Inside the rigid box, the product is not placed without anything. Instead, it is wrapped inside a foil or foam referred to as Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) or polystyrene foam. This is commonly placed inside the boxes in which owners have to deliver the fragile products.

The interior and exterior of the product package are both essential parts of the package, so whenever you are designing boxes for your products, make sure to keep them in mind.

Being hard in nature, polystyrene easily creates a strong layer between the rigid box exterior and the product, making a shock-absorbent layer.

Plastic sheeting

Plastic sheeting can create an internal tray inside the rigid box. One of the renowned brands, Apple, is using this technique to pack iPhones. Inside the rigid box packaging, there's a plastic tray with the mobile that is accompanied by the high-water mark.

Creativity with packaging materials

Apart from the chipboard, other glossy papers are also designed to give an aesthetic look to the packaging boxes. These papers collaborate and make an exceptional product box that adds joy to the unboxing experience for the users

In the gloss design, you can even select whether you'll have a polished appearance or not. If you want to depict a more mature look, go with the matte look. As a business owner, add all the necessary details like logo, brand's name, and design on the paper and glue it with the rigid box.

Wrap Up

This is all about what materials are generally available for rigid box manufacturing. Although every material comes with its own pros and cons, in the end, you have to choose the materials based solely on what products you are selling in the market.

In case you are dealing with heavy products, go with corrugated or chipboard, while paperboard and duplex board can handle lightweight products. Also, consider the interior materials you must place inside the rigid box to add furnishing to the product.

You can make your product material stand out with proper research and a wise choice at the right time.
