Technology for solid-state Submarine Batteryis being developed by Saft R&D. It aims to combine physicochemical qualities including processability, stability, and conductivity by concentrating on two basic material types: polymers and inorganic compounds.

Nuclear, fuel cell, and LIB powered submarines, for example, have been developed since diesel-electric submarines with lead-acid batteries, but lead-acid battery-equipped submarines have maintained their significant position in the global submarine industry.
