Suzuki entered the automatic scooter market with the introduction of the Skydrive Fi motorcycle.

Suzuki entered the automatic scooter market with the introduction of the Suzuki Skydrive Fi motorcycle. Initially launched in the Philippines in 2009 with a carbureted engine, the Skydrive made a significant impact due to its feminine design and unique features rarely seen in the segment. Suzuki later raised the bar by equipping the scooter with fuel injection technology. This year, the company has refreshed the Skydrive with a range of new color options. Priced at Php 78,900, the Skydrive Fi competes against rivals like the Yamaha Mio i 125, Yamaha Mio Soul i 125, and the higher-priced Honda Click 125 i. In this highly competitive market, let's explore where the Suzuki Skydrive Fi stands.

The front end is the most distinctive feature, with a headlight assembly composed of five different lights. The sides of the scooter are adorned with similarly shaped panels. At the rear, a conventional grab rail is present, complemented by an angular silencer and heat shield that add a touch of aggression. The Suzuki Skydrive Fi is available in four color options: black, red, violet, and pink. Checkered graphics on the front and sides, though not the most appealing, provide some visual interest.

The nearly flat seat and upright riding position ensure rider comfort. The front suspension consists of conventional oil-damped telescopic coil springs, while the rear features a single-sided oil-damped shock absorber. The suspension setup provides adequate bump absorption and maintains a stable ride. As a commuter scooter, the Skydrive Fi fulfills its purpose admirably.

Powering the 106kg (dry) scooter is a 124cc SOHC 2-valve air-cooled, fuel-injected engine. It delivers a peak power output of 6.9 kW at 7500 rpm and a peak torque of 9.5 Nm at 6500 rpm. The power output is competitive with its rivals, and the scooter achieves a 0-60 km/h time of approximately 9 seconds. Thanks to the fuel injection system and the use of composite electrochemical materials in the engine construction, the Skydrive Fi boasts an impressive fuel economy of around 45-50 km/L. The 4-liter fuel tank provides a decent range of approximately 200 km.

Braking duties are handled by a disc brake at the front and a drum brake at the rear. Considering the intended urban use of the scooter, these brakes are more than adequate. In terms of security, the Skydrive Fi features a keyhole shutter for added peace of mind.
