Experience a Delightful Heritage Visit to Abhaneri Stepwell 

Abhaneri is a small village in Rajasthan near Pushkar. More precisely, it comes under Dausa Distt. Abhaneri was initially Abhanagri, but due to the dialect of local people, it became famous as Abhaneri. It means the city of lights.  

 
It’s a very contradictory fact that a town name picked as the city of lights got overshadowed by time. The town has a beautiful ambience to experience the rustic culture of Rajasthan.

There is a 9th-century stepwell, a temple, and other architectural wonders. Rajasthan Tourism has invested immense support to bring this town to the limelight. Furthermore, the Bollywood and Hollywood filmmakers also deserve applause. They selected this beautiful gem as their shoot location and introduced the globe to the picturesque, mesmerizing surroundings of ancient Rajasthan. 

 

Abhaneri Stepwell: A Gem of an Ancient Era 

It's an ancient marvelous masterpiece reflecting the architectural carvings of the intervals of the 9th-10th century. The king of the Nikumbha Dynasty, Raja Chanda, was responsible for renovating the famous stepwell. It’s none other than the 3500 steps Chand Baori engineered in geometrical shape. The depth of the stepwell is around 100ft. As you go down, the air gets cooler.  

 
 

The main resource to quench the thirst of Abhaneri localities amidst the desert ecosystem. From then to now, Chand Baori has had a peaceful ambience to spend some quiet time. 
 

Tourists get mesmerized witnessing the art and intricate carvings of Hindu and mythological deities, patterns and sculptures. This stepwell and surrounding architecture would be a delightful experience for archaeological enthusiasts. 

 

The stepwell holds a special place for historical, architectural and cultural aspects. It was the universal spot for cultural gatherings and ceremonies. Not to forget that the place also holds significance for the bravery of Rajput ladies who performed the Jauhar. Thus, the stepwell got another name, ‘Jauhar Kund.’ 

 

Worship at Harshat Mata Temple: 

Harshat Mata Temple is another place here, reflecting the marvelous architectural beauty of Rajasthan. Devi Maa was full of joy and happiness, and the ambience of this temple reflected the same ambience. 

 

Cultural Vibes at Abhaneri Festival 

People should visit Abhaneri from November to March so that they can take part in the famous Abhaneri Cultural Festival. 

 

All credit goes to Rajasthan Tourism, who took the initiative and put the town into the limelight. With this festival, many talented artists got their work and appreciation. In this festival, they give dance and music performances, set up art exhibitions and small shops of handicrafts items.
